8 Days Kenya & Tanzania Wildlife Safari Day By Day Itinerary

Day 1Nairobi – Masai Mara National Reserve

Your safari starts with pick up from your Nairobi hotel or airport and drive to Masai Mara National Reserve situated in the south west of Kenya arriving in time for lunch followed by an afternoon game drive. Masai Mara is popularly known for its breathtaking landscapes and plenty of wildlife making it one of Africa’s most iconic safari destinations with high concentration of wildlife. The park’s open grasslands provide an ideal hunting grounds for the apex predators such as lions, leopards and cheetahs.

Day 2Masai Mara National Reserve

Full day of game viewing within the reserve with packed lunch in search of The Big Five animals (Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Rhinos and Buffalo) with an option of taking a Hot Air Balloon. What amazes tourists in this reserve is the annual migration of wildebeests. The animals shift on July and return on November and is among the seventh wonder of the world. The park has the largest concentration of African lions, including the black-maned lion. Bird life is in plenty as wildlife at the Mara, which boasts over 400 different bird species.

Exit the park to the nearby Maasai Village where you have the opportunity to learn and interact with the local Maasai Community. Maasais are popular and better-known ethnic people in East Africa due to their traditional origins from areas surrounding Masai Mara Game Reserve.

Return to your camp for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3Masai Mara – Serengeti National Park

Rise up early and depart for Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park situated in the Northern part of Tanzania known for its massive annual migration of wildebeest and zebra passing through Isebania Border. After border formalities you proceed to Serengeti National Park with a game drive enroute to your camp or lodge arriving later in the evening for dinner.

Day 4Serengeti National Park

Embark on a full day game drive with packed lunch in Serengeti National Park known for its vast open grasslands that provide excellent opportunities for wildlife sightings. This 15,000 sq km park is inhabited by more than 2 million large animals including more than a million wildebeest, hundreds of thousands of plains zebras, and Thomson’s gazelles. Large predators including lions, cheetahs, and hyenas are drawn to the area by this abundance of prey which migrate throughout the park. Many smaller animals like rock hyrax, bat eared foxes, mongoose, honey badger, jackals, monkeys, baboons and African hares also inhabit the area along with nearly 500 species of birds.

Day 5Serengeti – Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast exit Serengeti National Park to the bordering Ngorongoro Conservation Area descending down to the bottom of the crater, dotted with watering holes, shelters almost 30,000 animals in an area naturally enclosed by the volcano’s slopes. You will find the Big Five: lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard. The Crater has the largest unbroken caldera in the world, surrounded by very steep walls that rise 2,000 ft from the floor. It is considered one of the natural world’s wonders and a veritable wildlife haven. Spectacular animal life can be observed throughout the year, thanks to the permanent availability of grass and water.

Day 6Ngorongoro – Tarangire National Park

After breakfast you will head out to Tarangire National Park playing host of the Big Five, Tanzania’s largest concentration of elephants, and over 500 bird species. This enchanting park is renowned for its striking landscapes and expansive baobab tree-studded savannah featuring its majestic Tarangire River, which serves as a lifeline, attracting an array of wildlife. In the late afternoon, you’ll exit the park and proceed to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 7Tarangire – Amboseli National Park

Continue your journey to Amboseli National Park with a picturesque drive skirting through the vast plains and African savannah with sightings of Masai homesteads. You will arrive at your lodge in time for lunch followed by an afternoon game drive with a perfect view of Africa’s highest mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro. Day 8Amboseli – Nairobi

Rise up early for breakfast and embark on a half day game drive as you enjoy good views of Mount Kilimanjaro before clouds build up over the summit. Despite its changing habitat, Amboseli National Park is possibly the best wildlife area in the whole of Africa to experience elephant at close range. Your game drive will take you to the observation hill to have a better overall view of the park including the adjacent marshy swamps.

Wildlife is abundant in this park together with pelicans and other bird species. Your game viewing will be spread to cover the open plains, acacia woodland, rocky thorn bush country, swamps and marshland. Exit the park at around mid-day and drive back to Nairobi arriving later in the evening followed by a transfer to the Airport or your Nairobi Hotel.
