Next enjoy a heartwarming elephant care at the Sheldrick Trust. Proceed to hand-feed giraffes at the renowned Giraffe Centre. You will be picked from the airport or your Nairobi Hotel at 0600hrs and driven to Nairobi National Park arriving at around 0630hrs. Nairobi National Park has abundant wildlife. There are over 100 species of mammals and reptiles, and more than 400 species of birds. You are likely to see big four of the big five (Lion, Leopard, Rhino and Buffalo). One of the key places to visit is the ivory burning site where elephant tusks and rhino horns have been torched by Kenyan presidents to show the country’s commitment to stop poaching.
At 1100hrs exit Nairobi National Park to the adjacent Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Elephant Orphanage which only opens between 1100hrs to 1200hrs for feeding. Watch the adorable baby elephants being cared for as you learn about their rehabilitation program which have been orphaned by poachers, or have been lost or abandoned for natural reasons.
Depart Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Elephant Orphanage for the nearby Giraffe Center where you will spend 30 to 45 minutes hand feeding giraffes with pellets. The African Fund for Endangered Wildlife Giraffe Centre – locally referred to as The Giraffe Centre – plays a pivotal role in conserving the critically endangered Rothschild giraffe (which differ from other giraffe subspecies as they have no patterning below the knee).
At 1300hrs you will have a lunch break at Karen Blixen Coffee Garden thereafter drive further to the Nairobi’s National Museum arriving at around 1500hrs. The Nairobi National Museum is a very nice historical site with information of art, animals, the evolution of humans, music instruments, general information on Kenya throughout the days, a bird collection with all the birds of Kenya and more.
